Guidelines for the Management and Administration of Financial Accounts
Objective:
The primary objective of the Bangladeshi-American Foundation (“Foundation”) is to promote development of the Bangladeshi-American community. To this end, the Foundation shall promote youth development; provide scholarships and emergency financial assistance; organize an annual Bangladesh Night, establish Bangladesh Community Centers in major areas of community concentration, and raise funds for development projects and programs to benefit the poor and vulnerable in Bangladesh. Emergency assistance shall include financial support with housing needs, the medical bills, and burial expenses.
Funding sources:
Sources of funding shall consist of: membership fees, donations, fund-raising, and prescribed donations by Muslims (“zakat” and “zakat al-fitr”).
Assistance and Scholarship Beneficiaries:
Beneficiaries shall be the needy within the Bangladeshi-American community and others, under strict guidelines outlined below. The definition of the Bangladeshi-American community shall include all persons of Bangladeshi-origin residing in the United States of America and their descendants.
Non-zakat accounts shall be used for the benefit of all qualifying individuals irrespective of their religious beliefs. Resources from zakat and zakat al-fitr accounts shall be used solely for the benefit of Muslims.
